ChatGPT caught NYC schools off guard. Now, we’re determined to embrace its potential. (Chalkbeat) - Chancellor of New York City Public Schools, the largest school system in the U.S., anticipates a significant societal shift due to generative artificial intelligence, acknowledging its promise and perils. As they celebrate the global Day of AI, they are equipping educators with resources to teach about AI, and students are already engaging with AI technologies like ChatGPT, discussing ethical issues surrounding AI, and using it to enhance their learning experience.
If AI is to become a key tool in education, access has to be equal (The Conversation) - AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard could potentially enhance the accessibility of education, promoting individualized learning and fostering self-directed learning. However, issues of digital poverty and the digital divide must be considered, with educational institutions needing to address equal access to digital resources and fostering a culture of empathy towards those with limited access.
